prick test

Today we had our prick test to find out what allergies Liam has. To sum it up: peanuts, wheat, dogs & cats (?!?). We knew wheat, but were completely suprised to hear the rest. Now I'm carrying around an Epipen learning how to use it in case he's slipped a nut and goes into anaphylactic shock.

Its the first day I've seen him in a week and we were both a bit of a mess at our reunion. He cried a lot and has been following me around all day moaning "Ma ma ma ma" (when he's not clinging to or kissing me leg. Yeah, he kissed my leg a bunch today). Truthfully the past week has been brutal. I felt like my whole left arm had been cut off, I missed my little boy THAT much.

More on the prick test later. He's not napping well today and is off the rails with energy.

PS. Daweski called the cops on our crazy neighbors last night because they came home drunk and belligerent and I was scared. On their way out Donna-downstairs yelled "I'm calling the landlord!" and Cop #3 quipped "Good. Maybe he'll buy you a new trailer to live in." Mike-downstairs re-opened his door and said "That was unnecessary." Cop #1 said "Get back inside!" So Mike did. Well played cops. Well played.

Updated to add that even the best nappers totally lose it sometimes. I think its been too much for Liam today. He fell asleep in the car on the way home after the tests (before lunch) and slept for maybe 45 minutes. Thats it. All day. I tried again for a nap at 2 and at 3:30 (after an hour running hard in the park) and nothing is working. He is just Up!

Poor Liam. That's so scary that he's allergic to such common food items. That's good that you have the epipen. I hope you never have to use it.

That's a funny story about the cops.

Hope all is well now.

Poor baby and poor you! How do they do a "prick" test? I imagine it was not fun but atleast now you know what he's allergic too...It's amazing that with all these allergies he's such a good eater and is in such a high weight percentile....My son is a so-so eater and has a love/hate relationship with milk. I'm lucky if I can get 12 oz. of milk in him in a day.

my daughter is a few months older and right now I have hard time getting her down for just one nap! It's exhausting, you realize as a parent how much you used that nap time to recharge and when you dont have it its like OMG!

Jubes is the WORST napper. Small trade off for her 9hrs sleep nightly I guess? Is frustrating though when her mood is affected...our mood is thereafter affected. Infectious little people.

Love the cop's trailer comment. Too funny! haha!!

So allergy to wheat means he has celliac? I made some gluten free cupcakes for my sister in-law this weekend. So much out there now isn't there?

stacie the hardest part of the epipen is going to be teaching our daycare provider to use it. the language barrier is so severe...

lulu i'll do another post about the prick test soon i promise b/c i got some interesting photos. i think i would freak if liam wasn't taking 2 full 8oz bottles a day!

art deco that is depressing to read. from what i've heard most go until 3-4 with 1 nap a day. god willing!

sarah that is SO TRUE! when they're exhausted they're monsters, bless their little hearts. its hard on everyone.

anne, it just means allergy to wheat, he can still eat gluten - BUT here's the rub; most of everything that has gluten also has wheat in it. so yeah. he's pretty much still on a celiac diet.

sheri me too!! that thing looks like a massive majic marker.

Ah yes, the epi pen. My best friend. It doesn't hurt really when you jam it into your leg. You just gotta do it. And remember, the hives usually appear on the belly first. Email me if you want to talk about it at all. I'm a fucking pro at this point.

hooker i keep meaning to ask you to please elaborate on your epipen experience. if you could send me an email i'd appreciate it. its all a bit scary right now; like what if i mess up and don't hold the pen down for long enough? or the needle doesn't go in? and does it have to be in the leg or the butt or the arm or does it even matter?? so many questions...
